Measure a representative request first
Use token counts from your application's actual response usage. Conversation history, system instructions and function definitions can increase input. Reasoning can increase output. Multiply a realistic request by your expected request count rather than estimating only from visible words.
Cached tokens are part of total input
The cached-input field is a subset of total input, not an additional token count. A quoted cache-read price does not guarantee your request will receive a cache hit. Tokely has no separate exact-response cache; supplier-reported prompt-cache usage is a different mechanism.
Questions before you switch
Does the calculator send an API request?
No. It calculates locally from published prices. Changing the model or token counts does not call a supplier or spend your balance.
Why can my final bill differ?
Actual usage, reasoning, cache eligibility, context tiers, special tool/media units, taxes and payment fees can differ from the selected estimate. Use the dashboard's recorded charges for actual spending.
